Student Support Services and STEM Student Support Services


Our vision is to promote college degree attainment for our targeted population of students. We strive to allow educational access and maximize career readiness. We aim to become a national model of excellence amongst TRIO programs.


VCU TRIO has two programs available to VCU students, including the Student Support Services program and the STEM Student Support Services program. VCU TRIO Student Support Services/STEM SSS is committed to increasing the graduation rate for first-generation, low-income (Pell eligible), and students with disabilities through an intrusive advising approach. Our mission is to provide a variety of educational and social programming that will build self-efficacy and academic success in alliance with the University’s mission.


Student Support Services/STEM SSS at Virginia Commonwealth University provides the following to eligible undergraduate students:

  • Assistance with Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) completion
  • An assigned TRIO financial counselor
  • Career workshops
  • Development of an Individualized Education Program
  • Enhanced academic advising with an assigned TRIO advisor
  • Priority housing selection
  • Priority course registration
  • Financial counseling education
  • One-on-one tutoring
  • Peer mentoring
  • Social and cultural enrichment activities
  • Campus community service projects


To participate in TRiO Student Support Services, students must be enrolled at VCU, have an academic need, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and meet at least one of the following criteria:
