Student Support Services


Our vision is to promote college degree attainment for our targeted population of students. We strive to allow educational access and maximize career readiness. We aim to become a national model of excellence amongst TRIO programs.


VCU TRIO Student Support Services is committed to increasing the graduation rate for first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities through an intrusive advising approach. Our mission is to provide a variety of educational and social programming that will build self-efficacy and academic success in alliance with the University’s Quest for Distinction.


Student Support Services at Virginia Commonwealth University provides the following to eligible undergraduate students:

  • Assistance with FAFSA completion
  • Career workshops
  • Development of an Individualized Education Program
  • Enhanced academic advising
  • Financial counseling education
  • One-on-one tutoring
  • Peer mentoring
  • Social and cultural enrichment activities
  • Campus community service projects


To participate in TRiO Student Support Services, students must be enrolled at VCU, have an academic need, be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be a first-generation college student (neither of the student’s parents completed a bachelor’s degree)
  • Qualify as low income as defined by federal income guidelines
  • Have a documented disability reported in accordance with 34 CFR 646.7 © and verified by VCU Disability Support Services
